I am pleased to announce that Kiran Szekeres, MPH,will be
our new Director of Internships and Alumni Relations beginning in
January as Nancy Willard relocates to California with her family. We appreciate all of the time, energy, and
creativity that Nancy has invested in the HBHE student experience. She truly has made a lasting and positive
impact, particularly with the internship process and our professional
development courses. We wish her all the
best with her move. She will be greatly missed!
Kiran is a 2007 graduate of Northwestern University’s
anthropology program, and a 2009 graduate of our MPH program. She completed her internship with the Will
County Health Department where she led a community education initiative to
prevent childhood lead poisoning during ‘DIY’ home renovations. While a student, she was an active volunteer with
Project Health Schools, a school-based program to reduce childhood obesity and
its long-term health risks.
Kiran brings over 5 years of student services experience to
her new role in the department, having worked in recruiting and admissions for
SPH and most recently as the Teaching and Learning Research Specialist with the
Office of Academic Affairs. Here she
supported curricular innovation in the residential Masters programs and
administered the Certificate
in the Foundations of Public Health, a 16-hour interdepartmental program
that offers coursework in each of the 5 major disciplines of public health online for working professionals and those
unable to participate in an on-campus program but wishing to advance their
careers with UM SPH.
Kiran will be an asset to the entire department but will
work most closely with Dr. Gary Harper as a co-instructor for the required MPH Professional
Development courses. She will be the
point person for the internship program, alumni outreach. and social media as
it relates to communication and networking.
We are truly excited to have Kiran join our team!
